Recently, Facebook has taken several steps to ensure that it becomes an ubiquitous cyber-entity. It has acquired several small start-up companies, many of which have shut down their services shortly after the acquisition. However, as was announced on March 1st, the small mobile messaging company Beluga will continue to operate normally, at least for the time being. Beluga is a company that allows both personal instant mobile messaging (similar to texting) and also group messaging (like email). These are features that Facebook has desperately been trying to integrate, in order to create a more stable cross-platform system. Facebook has struggled to integrate a system that allows private messages to interchange between group and single messages (like a reply-all and reply to sender feature). The company Beluga (which has only been in business since last September) will bring both the talent (3 former Google emloyees) and the capability to make this goal a reality.
